John Marino is the godfather of ultracycling, the man who created the sport of ultracycling as we know it today, and also created the Great American Bike Race, Race Across America, and Furnace Creek 508. Now 60, John still rides at the same weight as he did 30 years ago. This program will include a screening of the 30-minute, award-winning film "Psychling" which documents John's 1980 Guinness Book transcontinental cycling record.

Chris Kostman set world ultra cycling records in high school in 1984 and 1985 and completed the 3127-mile, eleven-day Race Across America bicycle race at age 20 in 1987. That was a springboard to competing in events as diverse as the Triple Ironman in France and numerous winter ultras on mountain bike or snowshoes in Alaska. This led to a career producing some of the toughest endurance events available through his company, AdventureCORPS. Hosted in Death Valley, on the slopes of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Laguna, Mt. Tam, and beyond, these events include multi-day cycling lifestyle camps, centuries and double century events, the venerable Furnace Creek 508 bicycle race, and the world-famous Badwater Ultramarathon 135-mile foot race.

This exciting evening at The Bicycle Outfitter will provide entertaining and motivating insights into the past, present, and future of long-distance cycling, the man who brought the sport to life, and some of the premier events held right here in California. Come prepared to learn and be motivated! (Come join the ride, too, and make a day of it!)
